The Mountain Ice & Water Lab investigates how snow and glacier processes generate and modulate water in high-altitude catchments, and how these headwaters sustain downstream ecosystems and communities. Through hydrological modelling, climate scenario analysis, and field observations, we examine how cryosphere change affects mountain water availability and resilience in a warming world. Recognizing mountain regions as global water towers, our research connects high-elevation processes to broader water security challenges.
The Mountain Ice & Water Lab is based at the University of Lethbridge, known in Blackfoot as Iniskim (“Sacred Buffalo Stone”), located on the traditional territory of the Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot Confederacy). We acknowledge the enduring stewardship of Indigenous peoples over mountain and river systems and are committed to respectful, inclusive research practices.
